Nevada jurisdiction guide
Nevada aboveground fuel tank permits
Confirm the local authority first: fire-code rules and approvals may differ among Clark County, the Reno/Washoe area, and rural Nevada.
Which fire authority reviews the site?
Nevada has State Fire Marshal regulations under NAC Chapter 477, with separate local jurisdictions and adoption procedures. Determine whether the state, county or city fire authority will review tank placement, dispensing and equipment.
Confirm the currently effective code edition
Nevada's regulatory research identified adopted rule R205-24 updating code references toward the 2024 IFC and NFPA 30. The report did not resolve the precise statewide effective date. Confirm the code edition in force with the authority handling the project instead of assuming the 2018 or 2024 edition is universal.
Clark County and Washoe are different cases
Clark County has a separate fire-code structure; Reno, Sparks and Washoe-area authorities also have local adoption and amendments. Never reuse another jurisdiction's setback table or permitting assumptions without verification.
Environmental programs and SPCC
Federal SPCC requirements depend on facility circumstances, and sector-specific state rules may apply. The research did not establish a single universal Nevada environmental AST registration rule for every commercial tank.
Example: a fuel tank for a remote mining support site
First locate the site precisely: a remote Elko-area project should not automatically follow a Clark County checklist. Identify the reviewing authority, adopted code edition and any county-specific amendments. Then document tank size, fuel, dispensing method, access for fuel trucks, containment and applicable federal SPCC analysis before finalizing equipment or freight.
